THE CAPTAIN'S LOG

Capitalist Amerikan Pigs...

"Beer on whiskey, mighty risky... whiskey on beer, have no fear."

Lets talk about small town dynamics today... something I thought much about driving through the texas hillcountry this past weekend.

I, for one... love small town dynamics, a small community sustaining itself with farmer's markets, and the closest thing to a walmart is the general store which is owned and run by Sal from down the street. This is the America I'd like to live in... this is the America we can't have unless a nuclear holocaust wiped out all systems on this planet.

Now people would and have argued with the point, "Small communities like, Alpine Tx for example, are poor... people who have jobs in the community without an Academy, or a Home Depot.. can't make ends meet, and its not progressive to keep 'big box' out of our town."

Granted, I think big business has alot to do with the death of the little man, to quote Ford's hippocratic spokesman Alan rape-me-in-the-ass Jackson. However... I think it has some to do with our warped perception of what it means to be "doing well financially".

Alright lets analyze this... back when communities were self-sustaining, and there was no such thing as Walmart or even globalized Albertsons... when you asked someone what it meant to be wealthy, it meant something different than what it does today. Having two cars was almost unheard of, and now its almost a necessity. Now mothers are even required to enter the workforce rather than choosing between raising their children and being able to pay for the skyrocketing cost of living.

With a society striving for convienience, we make sacrifices in our domestic life. Living comfortably used to mean electricity, now its plasma televisions and grills with a retired boxer's face on them. Children are shuffled through daycares at a disturbingly early age.. and the family dynamic is choking if not already cold in the ground.

What I'm saying is... all these people living high off the hog, didn't exist in the times of self-sustain. Sure, there were the Rockafellers and Vanderbilts... but no where near how much of the population thats considered wealthy by our standards today.

It makes me ill to think there's no going back to the times before we grew fat as ticks and greasy from our gorging feasts.

Our priorities got all fucked up somewhere... Americana... sheesh.

And then I see Nelly on my tv screen.... with metal in his mouth worth enough to feed a 3rd world country for a year.

Capitalist pigs.

Call me a commie... but I think things are seriously fucked these days.

The Ninja... quite malcontent, is signing off..

Sa Da Tay!
